Stichting De Molen van Sloten
The
Foundation Stichting De Molen van Sloten
(Foundation The Sloten Windmill) consists of a group of
volunteers who are working to maintain the only windmill in
Amsterdam that is accessible to the public and still in
operation. The Sloten Windmill is a tower mill from 1847 that
really contributes to maintaning the groundwater level in the
region. The mill was originally located in the eastern part of
Amsterdam and was the last remaining mill of the four mills that
drained the Watergraafsmeerpolder. The mill was saved
from destruction in 1981 by taking it apart bit by bit and
rebuilding it at the current location near the
Ringvaart (the ring canal) in Sloten. Adjacent to the
mill is the Coopery Museum with objects and pictures of the
area. The volunteers give guided tours every day.
Kennedy Van der Laan has assisted the foundation in
administrative law proceedings.
