Kennedy Van der Laan has an Electric Car
Kennedy Van der Laan likes to invest in innovation and
sustainable developments. Since 11 November 2010 (Sustainability
Day), Kennedy Van der Laan has an electric car. The car is a
Tazzari Zero (see tazzarizero.nl) and is meant for use in and
around Amsterdam, for instance for drips to the courthouse. All
staff members of Kennedy Van der Laan may use the electric car. The
range of the car is 135 km, and its maximum speed is 100 km
p/h.
Kennedy Van der Laan is participating in a two-year electric car
trial project. The project is called ‘Databox Makes Electric
Driving Sustainable and Affordable’. The data about the performance
and the residual value of the battery after two years will be
collected and analyzed. Ten parties are participating in this pilot
project and the organizers are TNO, Delft University of Technology
and KEMA. The city of Amsterdam has provided a parking space with a
charging point near the office entrance. Amsterdam wants to give
the switch to electric transportation a big push forward and is
therefore facilitating electric transportation in the city by
installing charging points. For the time being, parking and
charging are free. An electric car is beneficial to air quality and
the climate because no harmful substances are emitted during its
use. The power that is being used has been generated in a
sustainable manner, without any fossil fuels, which makes electric
cars really clean.
By participating in this pilot project Kennedy Van der Laan is
contributing to the development of electric transportation in
Amsterdam. All staff members of Kennedy Van der Laan have an office
bike; there are no leased company cars. Kennedy Van der Laan does
have a subscription to ConnectCar (a car sharing rental scheme) and
stimulates travel by public transport. The electric car fits in
perfectly with the ideas of Kennedy Van der Laan and our first
experiences are that this car is attracting a lot of attention!
