Maarten Schut
Maarten Schut took degrees in both liberal arts and Dutch law at
the University of Utrecht, and an LL.M. in European law at the
University of Cambridge.
After his studies he worked for some time as a journalist for
one of the Dutch public channels. Then, he began the RAIO-program,
a multi-year work and training program to become a district court
judge. He received a rigorous training in civil and criminal law,
and worked as a public prosecutor and a judge before joining
Kennedy Van der Laan at the end of 2000.
Maarten has worked in the field of intellectual property since
then, with a focus on the exploitation and protection of technology
(in particular biotechnology) and trademark law. Maarten is an
experienced litigator. He regularly teaches both legal
practitioners and others (such as scientists, journalists, and
publishers) in aspects of intellectual property law, and is editor
of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Law (JFR).
